Would you consider Pedro Martinez one of the best pitchers of all time?
I was never a fan of any of the new york/boston teams, and never realized just how good his stats were until he came out and said how he dominated the steroid era.I knew he was really good but was never a fan of the redsox so never really paid attention to him. Hes got a career 2.80 era, a 1.03 whip, and 3000+ks. Just look at his stats from 1997 and 2000. I cant think of any modern pitchers with stats like that. Clemens, Johnson, Maddux and Santana are probably 4 of the best pitchers from the past 10-15 years and their ERAs and whips aren’t even close to Martinez’s. Why is it when people talk about the best pitchers to play he’s often left out of the discussion?
For everyone who says he isn’t ONE of the best, please give a little more info on why you think he isn’t. Also, I’m not saying he is the best every, but just one of the best.
Well honestly I don’t think he is left out of the conversation. I lived in New York for 26 years and I am a Met fan. I moved before he got on the team but I always heard his name in the discussion of all time greats. He is the Sandy Koufax of today. Not an intimidating presence like Clemens, or Johnson and not all finesse and painting the black like Maddux, and Glavin. Santana came on strong after Pedro’s real dominant years. Like Koufax he had nasty stuff, threw hard, and would take that plate away from batters not afraid of throwing some chin music to anyone. He will go down as one of the best all time.
